Christmas Tag

The Christmas Tag blog post is a festive opportunity for me to write about all my favorite holiday treats. I was tagged by my good friend Linz. All I need to do, is answer some questions about Christmas and then tag six people to carry on the Christmas spirit. Thank you so much for thinking of me, Linz! If you enjoy reading my Christmas post, be sure to pop over to sunsetsbooksandwine.com and read her holiday post about Christmas in the UK.

Finally, I’ve put my feet up with a hot cup of lemon tea. I’ve been baking Christmas cookies and candies for the last two days. What better time to write a blog post about everything Christmas?

1. When do your decorations go up?

Christmas decorations never go up before Thanksgiving. I think I’ve gotten a tree the weekend after Turkey Day once or twice but usually a few weeks later. This year, the tree went up December 6th.

2. Who is the Scrooge in your family or friendship group?

I can’t think of anyone I would classify as a Scrooge.

3. If money were no object, how and where would you spend Christmas?

I would rent a cabin somewhere with at least two feet of snow, probably right here in Montana. We would go out to cut down the perfect tree and on Christmas day I would cook delicious food and spend the day with the family eating and playing in the snow. We used to do this when my parents lived at Lolo Hot Springs, it was the best!!

4. What Christmas film do you have to watch every festive season?

My favorite Christmas movie is Elf with Will Ferrell. I also always watch Love, Actually, The Holiday, The Grinch, The Santa Clause, Bad Santa and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Yes, I really love Christmas movies. I usually catch a bit of A Christmas Story and White Christmas every year, too.

5. Who do you find hardest to buy presents for?

My husband is the hardest person to buy for. He likes things they way they are and he doesn’t need anything extra. He is very old-fashioned and basic in his requirements and desires. I usually end up getting him something very conventional like pants. Otherwise, he won’t use it!

6. Would you rather buy lots of little presents for a hamper, or buy one big/main present?

I like buying a lot, not necessarily little presents but a lot of presents. I might have a slight shopping problem. I have to set a budget and stick to it.

7. What did you leave out for Santa when you were a child?

I always left Santa milk and cookies.

8. Where did you spend last Christmas?

Last Christmas was spent at home, as usual. We have talked about going somewhere for Christmas. We used to travel when the kids were little, but most family is here now.

9. Which Christmas song makes you cringe?

None, I love them all. However, I will say this. I love classic Christmas songs, not newly made up ones by pop stars.

10. If you could be a character in a holiday movie, who would you be and why?

I would be Buddy the Elf, of course! First of all, I would be able to go to the North Pole anytime and talk to a narwhal. He also gets to hang out in New York and I’ve always wanted to go there during Christmas.

Linz’s Questions

1.      What is your Christmas Eve routine?

Ever since I’ve had kids, which has been eighteen years now, I’ve read The Night Before Christmas to the kids. This book is ripped up and taped back together. I need to order a new one but I love the illustrations of this book. Somewhere along the line we started opening one gift on Christmas Eve and it was always new pajamas. Then, eventually they all became matching pajamas.

2.      What is your favorite Christmas food?

I never really had a favorite Christmas dish but more a favorite Christmas meal. It’s the best when my husband’s sisters host a basque feast for Christmas. To read more about the food, read my blog post from last week, Christmas Tradition.

My Questions

1.      Do you have an Elf on the Shelf and, if so, how do you feel about it?

2.      Do you still send Christmas cards in the mail?
