Hydrate

Hydrate your body and your skin. Heat and sun exposure cause excessive dryness in the summer months. Be sure to drink plenty of water every day, especially if you are being active. I've seen several recommendations for water intake and they average about 2-3L per day.

Moisturize

Hydration is great but moisturizing locks it in and protects your skin. Your skin is your largest organ and you want to protect its elasticity and integrity, so nothing gets inside. Use moisturizers frequently and ALWAYS wear sunscreen when you're out in the sun. Again, summer is the dryest time of the year and one of the most important things you can do for yourself is stay hydrated and moisturized. My favorite moisturizers and sunscreens are from Monat. Click here to shop: MyMonat or read my full article about the brand here: Monat Obsessed!

Swim Outdoors

The pool is nice but there is just something peaceful about being immersed in a natural pool. Even if you can only put your feet in, to feel the cool water and dirt on your feet is grounding. The hot summer months are the only time we get hot enough and the lakes have warmed enough that it's refreshing. The natural water and sunlight can recharge you.

Frozen Treats

Self-Care, for me, sometimes means something tasty to eat! It may be a healthy smoothy or an indulgent milkshake but nothing lifts my mood like whipped cream and a cherry on top. Cool off with a popsicle or beat the heat with a cup of shaved ice in your favorite flavor. There are all kinds of summertime treats to help you stay cool on a hot day.

I hope you enjoyed my Summertime edition of a self-care list. Make sure to take care of yourself in the intense summer months!
